'Proud of what I did' - John Terry defends 'full kit' Champions League Chelsea antics

John Terry has defended his decision to wear his full Chelsea kit after their 2012 Champions League final triumph.

The Blues legend faced criticism for wearing his full kit and lifting the trophy as if he'd played in the penalty shootout victory over Bayern Munich, despite being suspended for the match. This incident quickly became a social media meme, with fans labelling him a «full kit w**ker».

The topic resurfaced during his guest appearance on Up Front With Simon Jordan. When host Jordan questioned his actions, Terry said: «Why not? I scored the goal in the quarter-final to get us through to the semis.

»There was also about another seven or eight players doing the same thing but again because it's me, people jump on the bandwagon. [Branislav] Ivanovic, wasn't even in the squad.

«He was sitting on the crossbar in his kit yeah, of course he was in his kit. Paulo Ferreira. There was three or four of us but again because it's me, it's blown and it's JT.

»I'm proud of what I done by the way, I'm not sitting here going 'I wish I didn't sit in my full kit'. And by the way, I had shin pads on, I had the lot on. I properly went for it."

One of Terry's ex-colleagues, Ramires, previously clarified that those who hadn't been able to play were told by the club to get into their full kit for a team photo after the victory. Terry distinguished himself from the rest by being the one to make the trophy lift.

He even showed up with his career medals when he was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame this week.
