Ten Hag disagrees with Antony over controversial Coventry celebration

Manchester United player Antony was "provoked" by Coventry City players, according to his manager Erik Ten Hag, and therefore, he said, went too far in celebrating his side's penalty shoot-out victory and progress to the FA Cup final.

The winger, who came on in the second half with the score at 0-3 and witnessed first-hand the Championship side's equaliser and the final penalty shootout win, has been criticised since Sunday for his reaction after the victory, mocking the Coventry City players and holding his fingers to his ears.

"Antony was provoked," Erik Ten Hag said on Tuesday, "But he shouldn't react like that. You didn't see the provocation, just the reaction, but he shouldn't do it," he added. The opposite case to Antony was that of Harry Maguire, who, as soon as the penalty kicks were over, went off to greet and console the Coventry City players.

"Yes, I saw Harry as well. We should recognise Coventry's performance - to come back in 20 minutes when we had dominated the game. The game should have been over by now, but the comeback, for their part, was very good," added the Dutch coach.
